Flights, transfers, trains and self-drive — how to move between the places on this site.
Domestic flights
Light aircraft from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport reach most safari airstrips in 45 to 90 minutes. For any itinerary combining a reserve with the coast, flying is the difference between a travel day and a wasted one. Baggage is limited to soft bags of around 15kg.
Private transfers
Door-to-door 4x4 or saloon transfers with a driver, arranged for the whole itinerary. This is how most of our travellers move between Nairobi, the airports and their first property.
Safari transport
Game drives run in open-roof 4x4 vehicles with a guide, either from your camp or as part of a longer road itinerary. Vehicles on our itineraries have a window seat for every guest — worth confirming anywhere else.
Rail and road
The Madaraka Express links Nairobi and Mombasa in about six hours and is comfortable and punctual. Self-drive is possible but we rarely recommend it for a first visit: signage is thin, and park driving rewards someone who knows where the animals are.
