Visas & entry
What you need to enter Kenya, and how to get it before you fly.
Electronic Travel Authorisation
Kenya replaced its visa system with an Electronic Travel Authorisation. Almost every visitor needs one, and it must be approved before you board. Apply online at least a week before travel — approval usually comes within three days.
What you need to apply
A passport valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date with one blank page, a recent passport photograph, your return ticket, and your first night’s accommodation booking. We send you the booking confirmation you need once your itinerary is set.
On arrival
Immigration will ask to see the approved authorisation, your passport and your onward ticket. Keep a printed copy — airport WiFi is not reliable enough to depend on your phone.
East Africa Tourist Visa
If you are combining Kenya with Uganda or Rwanda, the joint East Africa Tourist Visa covers all three for 90 days and works out cheaper than separate entries. Tell your planner early, because it must be applied for through the country you enter first.
